Parachute

Relevance of art is bonded with the role of culture and art in modern society. Art is one of the most powerful mechanisms of self-development and self-knowledge of men and their interraction with the world. This is also an instrument of accumulation and assimilation of this knowledge, the way of depicting society’s specific values, actualization of these values making them a part of art form.

Today art and fashion can’t exist without each other. Designers get inspired by the works of Renaissance masters as well as modern provoking artists like Jeff Koons and Yayoi Kusama, and so do I.
Main project goal was to create a collection that mixes art, sport elements and evening wear. For this project I gathered inspiration from Igor Pekuras’ work - «Parachutists».

This paiting inspired me to use voluminous cut, combining fabrics of different color and texture that create some sort of dissonance.

Design process

The most difficult part was working with jacquard fabrics: after you cut out pattern, you have to be very careful with it because the pattern edges start falling apart rapidly. The second daring aspect was aligning the stripes.

As my goal was to mix sportswear and evening wear, I used jacquard fabrics combining them with raincoat fabrics. Trims like striped ribs and drawstrings emphasised sporty look. Each piece of clothing I constructed and made by myself.

Technical sketch
& construction

After drawing a technical sketch in Adobe Illustrator, I drafted the pattern pieces using the classic patternmaking method. The patterns were created at a 1:1 scale and then digitized again in Adobe Illustrator.

Photoshoot concept

The visual direction combines raw documentary photography with a deliberately stylized fashion approach. Harsh daylight, direct flash, unusual perspectives, saturated court surfaces, and spontaneous poses emphasize the contrast between the polished garments and the imperfect urban environment.
